In 2002, SCOA celebrated it's 50th anniversary of conducting business in the
United States. Officially established in New York in 1952, SCOA
has grown from a San Francisco-based representative office started
in 1951, to a company with 12 U.S. offices, and more than 40 subsidiaries.
Today, our network also spans North and South America through our
affiliation with Sumitomo Canada Limited, Sumitomo Mexico and Sumitomo's
South American offices. Over the years, as offices were established
throughout the U.S., the Company's name changed from Nikken New
York (NNY), to Sumitomo Shoji New York (SSNY) to Sumitomo Shoji
America, Inc. (SSAI) to finally, Sumitomo Corporation of America
(SCOA).

timeline [PDF, 51K], printed in our internal newsletter the
SCOA Times on our 50th anniversary.
