Chemical and Plastics Business Highlights

Sumitomo Corporation of America's (SCOA) Chemicals & Plastics Division now includes value-added toll processing in its competitive arsenal. This involves purchasing raw materials in the United States and converting them into plastic compounds for export to Europe and Asia. This expanded service to SCOA customers is further enhanced by our negotiation of long-term arrangements with producers to ensure a steady supply.

Mutually beneficial trade relationships have also increased through our purchases of chemicals and other products from Eastern Europe and developing countries. Furthermore, we’ve increased our trade efforts in China, Vietnam, India, and Brazil.

SCOA has also worked to expand trade through investment in new companies and products

Savannah International Terminal, LLC: This new company, created by SCOA subsidiary Summit Minerals, provides the transportation and logistics capabilities to move Georgia kaolin clay from the U.S. to key customers in Japan and China.
