Sumitomo Corporation and Hamilton Sundstrand Joint Venture
Expansion Finalized
On October 6, 2005, Hamilton Sundstrand (HS) and Sumitomo Corporation
announced the successful expansion of the Hamilton Sundstrand Space
Systems International Inc. (HSSSI) joint venture. HSSSI, initially
created in 1994, originally joined the space and commercial businesses
of what is now known as Space, Land and Sea (SLS) in Windsor Locks,
Conn. and Houston, Tex., with Sumitomo Corporation.
"Our companies have a long and successful history," said
Larry McNamara, SLS director, Strategy & Development and president,
HSSSI. "Sumitomo has been our sales representative in Japan
for more than 50 years."
With this expansion of HSSSI, the joint venture now also includes
homeland security and human and unmanned space elements from SLS
sites in Pomona, California and Rockford, Illinois.
"This expansion of HSSSI is a great opportunity for our company,"
said Ed Francis, vice president and general manager of SLS. "Our
organization will benefit by becoming more global and having greater
access to growth opportunities in Japan."
HS owns 80 percent of the common stock of the joint venture and
Sumitomo owns 20 percent. The day-to-day operations of SLS will
not change substantially as a result of the expansion.
