4.2 Environmental policy

SCOA Detroit has adopted the environmental policy of the Sumitomo Corporation Group as approved on June 22, 2001 by Motoyuki Oka, President and CEO:

Sumitomo Corporation Group recognizes that the issues of the environment are global in scale and that they are long-range concerns affecting generations to come. As a global organization, Sumitomo Corporation Group through sound business activities will strive to achieve sustainable development aimed at symbiosis between social and economic progress, and environmental preservation.

In keeping with this underlying principle, Sumitomo Corporation Group will apply the following guidelines of environmental management to its commercial transactions, development programs, business investments, and other activities:

1. To attach great importance to protecting the global environment as a good corporate citizen in keeping with the Corporation Activity Guidelines.
2. To strictly observe environmental legislation and abide by agreements undertaken by the Corporation, as we strive to prevent environmental pollution while conducting the Corporation’s business activities.
3. To be mindful of the finite availability of resources and energy and strive to use them both efficiently and effectively.
4. To establish an environmental management system in line with this Environmental Policy, setting environmental objectives and targets as the basis for implementing environmental protection activities, and reviewing this management system periodically with the intent for ongoing improvement.
5. To communicate this Environmental Policy to all of the Corporation’s employees, as well as disclosing it externally.
