CFPC - Summit Agriculture Company
California Florida Plants Company
L.P. (CFPC) is a joint venture of Summit Agriculture Company
- a subsidiary of SCOA and Sumitomo Corporation - and Shibata Brothers,
one of the largest flower producers and wholesalers in the country.
Based in Salinas, California, CFPC breeds, develops and supplies
over 100 types of carnation cuttings to flower growers in the U.S.
and Japan. Through prudent investment and use of the latest technology,
CFPC has established a strong presence in both the U.S. and Japanese
flower markets, which have a combined value of approximately $18
billion. In the U.S. the consumption of carnation cuttings has grown
steadily to a rate of nearly 23 million a year. CFPC's market share
is almost 50 percent of that total. The company is also enthusiastic
in its role as an exporter of U.S. products to Japan and has achieved
growing success in this area. Employing advanced laboratory cell-culture
techniques, the company provides the highest quality cutting and
constantly seeks new varieties of patentable carnations to meet
the needs of commercial carnation growers.
