Tubular Products Business Highlights
Sumitomo Corporation of America (SCOA) Tubular Products Division strives
to maintain our customers' long term confidence as valuable business partners.
We supplied more than 100,000 tons of coated line pipe and OCTG to a
consortium led by British Petroleum (BP) for an oil development project
in Colombia. We supplied high nickel alloy tubes with internal 8-fin for
furnaces of an Ethylene chemical plant.
Our capabilities include pipe threading, processing and distribution
affiliates. We are also aggressively developing new areas to utilize specialty
tubular products.

Sumitomo Supply Chain Management Services for Tubular Products
Circle the Globe
It is a trend that is quickly spreading across many industries. More companies
are ceding their supply chain operations to companies that specialize
in these areas while they focus on their core competencies. And on the
cutting edge of this change in the OCTG (Oil Country Tubular Goods) category
is SCGTS (SC Globul Tubular Solutions), a subsidiary company created in
2002 by Sumitomo Corporation of America (SCOA), Sumitomo Corporation (SC),
Sumitomo Corporation Europe (SCEU) and Sumitomo Corporation (Singapore)
Pte. Ltd. (SCSI), specifically for Supply Chain Management (SCM) Operations.
SCOA Participates in the Acquisition of North Star Steel’s
Tubular Division
SCOA, along with Vallourec & Mannesmann Tube and Sumitomo Corporation,
Japan, announced that it has entered an agreement to acquire North Star
Steel's Tubular Division from its parent company, Cargill, Incorporated.
This strategic acquisition strengthens the supply chain for SCOA and its
affiliates, allowing them to continue to expand their role as top global
suppliers of OCTG.
Shell's Tension Leg Platform
SCOA supplied several kinds of tubular products, totaling 40,000 tons,
for TLP (Tension Leg Platform) used by Shell in offshore drilling projects.
AB Tube Processing
SCOA established AB Tube Processing (ABTP) to provide a more finished
product for inflator manufacturers. Located in Las Vegas, Nevada, the
plant is central to its major customers. Using tubing from Sumitomo Metal
Industries, ABTP cuts, forms, drills, punches, and washes to manufacture
finished inflator canisters.
