WASHINGTON DULLES INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT:
SUMITOMO TEAM TO BUILD AUTOMATED PEOPLE MOVER

New York, November 6, 2002 - - Sumitomo Corporation of America (SCOA) has been selected by the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA) to construct an Automated People Mover (APM) system at Washington Dulles International Airport, it was announced today.

The $200 million contract will include the design, engineering, construction, and vehicle delivery as well as operations and maintenance of the new system for five years. Sumitomo will work with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) to supply and build the APM.

Completion date for the project is 2008.

The APM system will have four stations, and the trains will ride on rubber wheels below ground for some two miles. It will connect the Dulles Main Terminal with Concourse A, B and C. Departing passengers using the secure APM system will have already cleared security, and they will remain "secure" during their brief ride to terminals and gates.

" APMs speed the flow of people and play a valuable role in the future efficiency and security of our nation's airports," said Gino Antoniello, SCOA vice president for transportation systems. "We are pleased to introduce the Crystal Mover APM to the US and be part of this important project in the nation's capital."

The APM technology is presently operating in Hong Kong, Singapore, Tokyo, Yokohama, Hiroshima, Kobe, and other locations. The clean lines and unique diamond shape of the Crystal Mover makes it an aerodynamic work of art. It is a pleasing, high-quality system with a solid record for efficient, safe operation in a wide range of environments. The Crystal Mover's high-tech interiors provide exceptional visibility and a smooth, comfortable ride.

SCOA won the APM project in a competitive process supervised by the MWAA. The MWAA Board of Directors made their decision to award the project to the Sumitomo team at their meeting today.

The project team with SCOA as the prime contractor includes; MHI as the system integrator and vehicle manufacturer, and Alcatel Transport Automation Solutions as the automatic train control supplier. Subcontractors that SCOA has teamed with include more than 20 local businesses in the Washington D.C. area, 18 of which are companies certified as Local Disadvantaged Business Enterprises (LDBEs). They include; Eastern Electrical, a Virginia based company which will provide electrical/communication installation; Prince Construction Co., Inc., a Washington, D.C. based company, which will provide and install rebar and concrete; and VARCO/MAC, a Maryland based company, which will provide the power delivery for the system. SCOA has a strong track record for organizing sophisticated project teams that enhance LDBE companies and programs.

Sumitomo together with MHI have 30 years of APM experience with seven APM systems installed, including systems in Singapore, Japan, and Hong Kong, . The team recently entered the construction phase to build a Crystal Mover system for the Miami International Airport's North Terminal.
