Sumitomo Corporation of America: An Investment and Solutions Provider

Strategic investments have transformed Sumitomo Corporation of America (SCOA) from a traditional trading company into a 21st century integrated business enterprise.

These investments have allowed SCOA to expand into new and emerging areas of business while making us a better solutions provider to our current customers.

When considering a business opportunity or acquiring a new company, SCOA looks for areas where we can make a company grow or become more efficient through the application of our expertise and resources.

In recent years this has led SCOA to create our own subsidiary companies or become investors in existing companies.

Supply Chain Management: SCOA and parent company Sumitomo Corporation (SC) along with SC Singapore and SC Europe created SC Global Tubular Solutions LLC which provides expertise in the oil industry to subsidiary and affiliate companies worldwide.

Distribution: For those companies looking to expand production and distribution, we offer support through Sumitomo Corporation (SC) industrial parks. Currently, we have operations in Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam and China.

Project Management: When Chicago Metra and Miami International Airport needed upgrades to their transportation systems, they turned to SCOA and its partner companies for their project management skills and experience.

Technology Transfer: Our Aerospace department works with companies like Raytheon to provide high tech solutions to Japan's Self Defense Forces (JSDF).

Trade: Through Sumitomo's marketing efforts, Smithfield Foods, the world's premier pork processor, has successfully whetted Japanese consumers' appetites for a lean pork product. Sumitomo's distribution agreement with Smithfield was recently extended through 2005.

Transportation: SCOA subsidiary Sumitrans provides transport solutions to SCOA business divisions and such clients as Mazda and Ford.
