Sumitomo Corporation expands veterinary medicine sales to Indonesia through partnership with Medion Pharma

November 7, 2016 – Tokyo, Japan - Sumitomo Corporation (“Sumitomo”) announced today that it will soon begin the sale and transfer of animal health medicines and technology originally manufactured or developed by Japanese vaccines manufacturers to ranchers and farmers throughout Indonesia.
 
Sumitomo recently completed an Agency Agreement to market and introduce vaccines and other animal health medications made by Japanese manufacturers with Medion Farma Jaya (“Medion”), one of Indonesia’s leading companies in animal drug manufacturing that is known for their strength in vaccines for poultry. Headquartered in Bandung, Medion has developed a cold- technology supply chain for animal drugs with 3 manufacturing sites and 52 distribution sites.
 
With approximately 260 million people, Indonesia currently has the largest population in Southeast Asia. As economies grow here, there is an expansion of national per capita income and improved living standards, resulting in the consumption of more animal meat.   Because of this trend, Sumitomo will start registering veterinary vaccines manufactured in Japan in 2017, so it can be made available to the Indonesian livestock industry in 2019.
 
In addition to their partnership with Medion, Sumitomo’s Animal Health Sciences Dept. recently invested in Sinder, one of China’s leading companies in animal drug manufacturing, and has started similar registration process for vaccine distribution in Kenya as well.   The agreements between Sumitomo and both Sinder and Medion is a big step toward contributing to the prevention of animal disease in developing nations like China, Africa and Southeast Asia, and providing safe animal meat for the increasing demand of this global market.
