Business Unit Overview
Our Infrastructure department has diverse business interests ranging from an extensive renewable energy business, through to water utilities, district heating & cooling, smart city parking, train operation and the export of machinery products.
Sumitomo Corporation is globally involved in the energy business, with particular focus on the renewable energy sector, including both onshore and offshore wind power generation, solar and biomass assets. Following Sumitomo philosophy for long-term success, which includes an extensive risk management policy, sound contractual structures, as well as close cooperation with reliable local partners, we are able to achieve solid infrastructure investments with attractive returns.
Together with our parent company, Sumitomo Corporation, we are involved in the energy business, with particular focus on the renewable energy sector, including wind power generation, solar photovoltaic power generation and biomass power generation.
On a global basis our activities in the renewable energy sector are expanding rapidly and the organisation is heavily engaged in the development of wind and solar projects on a worldwide.
In Europe we have stakes in four offshore wind power projects (165MW and 216MW in Belgium, and 537MW and 336MW in UK) and two solar development projects (5MW and 9MW in Spain).
Industrial Plant and Heavy Machinery Trading
We supply plant and machinery products from European manufacturers mainly to the steel industry, and are providing solutions to our customers by coordinating logistics and providing after sales service.
The supply of industrial machinery is a niche business and we currently export cigarette packing machinery to Japan, as well as food processing machinery and laundry machinery to the Japanese market.
In 2013 Sumitomo Corporation Europe acquired Sutton & East Surrey Water (SES Water ), a UK based water company supplying drinking water to residential and business customers for 700,000 people in the area.
Through the leverage of SESW’s knowledge and expertise, as well as Sumitomo’s experience in privatised water industries through the operation and management of SESW, Sumitomo Corporation and Sumitomo Corporation Europe are working to expand their water utility business worldwide.
On a global basis, Sumitomo Corporation started in the water business in the 1990’s and has developed joint ventures or strategic alliances with global water players, including the water engineering company, VA TECH WABAG, of which Sumitomo is a strategic shareholder.
Transportation Systems & Infrastructure
The transport infrastructure project investment team with expertise in rolling stock, EPC projects, leasing, operation and maintenance deals. Originates and closes strategic and commercial partnerships and acquisitions across global network of manufactures, operators, funders and sponsors.

Sutton & East Surrey Water
Sutton & East Surrey Water is a water-only company supplying residents in the following areas of the UK: East Surrey, parts of west Sussex, west Kent and south London. This equates to an 835 sq km supply area of which the majority is rural land, supplying approximately 700,000 consumers.
Northwind NV owns the wind power generation plant in the Bank zonder Naam in the Northsea, 37km off the coast of Zeebrugge, Belgium. The plant capacity is 216MW and it has been operating since 2014. The plant generates approx. 875 GWh of electricity in year.
Nobelwind NV owns the wind power generation plant in the Bligh Bank in the Northsea, 46km off the coast of Zeebrugge, Belgium. The plant capacity is 165MW and it has been operating since 2017. The plant generates approx. 680 GWh of electricity in year.
Race Bank Wind Farm Limited
Race Bank Wind Farm Limited owns the wind power generation plant in the Northsea, 27km off the East coast of UK. The plant capacity is 573MW and it has been operating since 2018. The plant generates approx. 2,880 GWh of electricity in year.
Galloper Wind Farm Limited
Galloper Wind Farm Limited owns the wind power generation plant in the Northsea, 27km off the South East coast of UK. The plant capacity is 336MW. The plant generates approx. 1,500 GWh of electricity in year.
Energìa Verde De La Macaronesia, S.L. (EVM)
EVM owns the solar power generation plant in Tenerife Island, Spain and engage in operation and production of the plants. The plant capacity is 9MW and it generates approx. 16GWh of electricity in a year.
EVM2 Energìas Renovables S.L. (EVM2)
EVM2 owns the solar power generation plant in Tenerife Island, Spain, and engage in operation and production of the plants. The plant capacity is 5MW and it generates approx. 9GWh of electricity in a year.
