Sumitomo Corporation Summit Cup to Begin Soon

Sumitomo Corporation will be the presenting sponsor for the 54th PGA Senior Championship Sumitomo Corporation Summit Cup, an official PGA Senior Tour event to be held at the Summit Golf Club (Ishioka, Ibaraki Prefecture) from October 8-11. The 2013 championship saw Isao Aoki (then 71 years old) made headlines by shooting his age, while last year spectators were captivated to the very end by a three-way playoff among Naomichi Ozaki, Kiyoshi Murota, and Tsukasa Watanabe.

This most prestigious official event for senior professional golfers in Japan was first held in 1962, and the 54th PGA Senior Championship continues the event's tradition as Japan's oldest senior tour competition. A total of 13 tournaments are scheduled for this year's senior tour in Japan, and the Sumitomo Corporation Summit Cup, the ninth event of the tour, will offer a top prize of 10 million yen and a total purse of 50 million yen. A heated contest among seasoned golfers is expected.

One particular appeal of the senior tour is that spectators enjoy greater proximity to the players than on the regular tour, and it is inspiring to watch stars of years gone by maintaining their determination to win. This year's event will be televised on BS Asahi and the Golf Network (see the broadcast schedule below). TV commercials featuring Sumitomo Corporation employees will also be broadcast during breaks in the action, so please keep an eye out for these, too.
