Construction started on new warehouse for Thailand logistics

Sumitomo Corporation (Head Office: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; President and Chief Executive Officer: Masayuki Hyodo), through its wholly-owned subsidiary Sumisho Global Logistics Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Katsuya Okihiro), has begun construction of a new 10,000m2 company warehouse (hereinafter, “the new warehouse”) in Chonburi at its Thailand logistics subsidiary Sumisho Global Logistics (Thailand) Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Bangna, Thailand; Managing Director: Hironori Watanabe; hereinafter, “SGLT”) to further expand its lineup of services.

The new warehouse will be on the premises of the SGLT Laem Chabang Branch, situated between Laem Chabang Port, Thailand’s largest trade port, and a major industrial park featuring a concentration of automotive companies. Chonburi Province not only serves as a hub for automotive-related companies but, as an investment incentive area in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) constituting the heart of “Thailand 4.0” (Note 1), it has also been designated a special economic zone, alongside Chachoengsao Province and Rayong Province. Chonburi is expected to see future investment from next-generation automotive companies as well as medical, aviation, robotics and other high-tech companies.

Erecting a company warehouse on the premises of the Laem Chabang Branch will enable effective use of the Branch’s existing staff and know-how and ensure operational quality. This warehouse will provide logistics services tailored to the new logistics needs of customers, including container transshipment, export packing, and JIT delivery.

Since its establishment in 1989, SGLT has provided comprehensive logistics services to the electronic and electric machinery companies operating principally in Navanakorn Industrial Estate as well as to the automotive and construction machinery companies operating primarily in Chonburi Province in eastern Thailand. It has constructed a network of five branches and seven business locations in Amatanakorn, Prachinburi and elsewhere, building up its status as an integrated logistics service provider in Thailand. SGLT’s operations in Thailand currently utilize a total of 80,000m2 in warehouse area, and this area will be expanded to 90,000m2 with the new warehouse.

The Sumitomo Corporation Group will continue contributing to the economic and industrial development of Thailand and other countries by meeting Thailand’s surging logistics needs through SGLT.

(Note 1) Thailand 4.0

“Thailand 4.0” is a long-term vision for Thailand’s future economic society, defined as an economic society capable of creating sustained additional value in line with the keywords of innovation, productivity and service trade. Efforts are being focused on ten industries: next-generation automobiles, smart electronics, medical tourism, agriculture and biotechnology, food products, robotics, aviation/logistics, biofuels and biochemicals, digital technology, and medical hubs.
