“Policies on Climate Change Issues” Reviewed

Sumitomo Corporation (Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director, President and Chief Executive Officer: Masayuki Hyodo) revised its “Policies on Climate Change Issues” in order to take on a more active role in climate change mitigation and to contribute to a sustainable society.

Sumitomo Corporation has committed to reduce CO2 emissions generated by business activities and aim to carbon-neutralize the Sumitomo Corporation Group’s business activities by 2050. The company will also seek to develop technologies and business models that achieve sustainable energy cycles by reducing CO2 emissions society-wide and absorbing, recovering and removing CO2.

In addition to its own efforts, Sumitomo Corporation will collaborate with business partners, public institutions and other interested parties to pursue initiatives, technologies and platforms that support a carbon neutral society.

Sumitomo Corporation has identified climate change mitigation as a key social issue directly related to its business activities, and the company will establish specific targets to contribute to climate change mitigation, including disclosing details on the progress of its efforts.
