Joint Venture Established with Vietnam’s Leading IT Corporation FPT and SBI Holdings to Provide AI Solutions
Sumitomo Corporation (Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director, President and Chief Executive Officer: Shingo Ueno) has established a joint venture and strategic partnership with FPT Corporation (Head Office: Hanoi, Vietnam; hereinafter "FPT"), a global leading IT corporation headquartered in Vietnam, and SBI Holdings (Head Office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; hereinafter "SBI Holdings"). The collaboration aims to provide AI solution services, a comprehensive suite for accelerating sovereign AI innovation in Japan, including GPU (graphics processing units) Cloud resources, which is essential for AI development and usage.
Since the emergence of ChatGPT in 2023, services utilizing generative AI have expanded rapidly worldwide, leading to a surge in demand for high-performance computing infrastructure such as NVIDIA GPUs, which are essential for AI applications. The partners join forces to own and operate their own GPU servers – currently in short supply – and offer GPU rentals to companies and research institutions. The alliance will also provide solutions such as data cleansing for GPU input and the development of client-facing management dashboards.
FPT is a global leading IT corporation operating in over 30 countries, providing services in AI, software development and IT consulting. As an NVIDIA partner, FPT has a reliable system in place to secure GPUs. In addition, FPT operates a dedicated university for training IT engineers, ensuring a steady pipeline of skilled talent capable of delivering large-scale, high-quality engineering services.
The SBI Group operates businesses in financial services, asset management and investments, while also engaging in next-generation initiatives such as Web3. In 2020, the SBI Group and FPT established a software development joint venture, providing IT software development for SBI Group companies, alongside packaging and BPO services to external clients.
Sumitomo Corporation has been developing digital businesses in Japan for over 50 years across a wide range of digital domains including consulting, system development, data centers and BPO. The company has built and maintains strong networks with diverse partners and clients both domestically and internationally.
This initiative brings together the Sumitomo Corporation Group's business platform, SBI Holdings' customer base and FPT's expertise in AI and IT. The aim is not only to provide GPU resources but also to strengthen digital infrastructure and develop vertically specialized AI solutions tailored to specific industries. In this way, the joint venture will support the entire AI industry value chain and contribute to enhancing Japan's digital competitiveness.
