Business Group Overview

Introduction

The Energy Transformation Business Group is a business organisation that goes beyond the traditional frameworks of both conventional business segments and the energy transition itself. We consider the changes in social structure brought about by energy transition as a significant business opportunity, and our core mission is to contribute to the realisation of a carbon-neutral society through decarbonisation and the creation of sustainable energy cycles, while achieving energy security. Our activities are centred on three key focused areas: Gas, Power, and New Energy (including Carbon Management).

Gas and Power Trading

We are active in gas and power trading across pan-European markets, with an annual traded volume of approximately 800 TWh. This volume is generated across a range of activities, including a renewable power balancing and asset backed trading business in Germany, gas and power supply to retailers in the UK, and gas storage related trading activities.

Renewable Energy

We also focus on renewable energy, including offshore wind and solar photovoltaic power generation. We are heavily engaged in the development of projects, and have stakes in seven offshore wind power and two solar projects.

New Energy (including Carbon Management)

Our focus is on developing energy storage systems, including large scale batteries, together with new energy solutions that contribute to the achievement of carbon neutrality. These include bio energy solutions (biogas and biomethane), hydrogen, ammonia, SAF, CCUS, as well as carbon dioxide removal (CDR) solutions spanning both nature-based CDR and engineered CDR.
