Providing Essential Tools for Education

Donated PCs in the San Francisco Professional Technical School Computer Lab

SC Chile organized two donation initiatives in 2020 as part of its 100SEED program. The first project donated tools to a technical-professional school named Liceo Amador Neghme Rodriguez, helping to equip students entering the labor market as electric technicians. Due to the COVID-19 crisis, the school didn’t have enough resources to provide their graduating class with the tools they needed to succeed in 2020. Nearly half of their students are immigrants from Haiti, Venezuela, Peru, Ecuador, and Colombia, and therefore highly vulnerable. SC Chile was able to commit 30 tool kits to support this graduating class so that these students can enter straight into the labor market or use them during internships to become electric technicians.

The second project began by removing hard drives from computers no longer used by SC Chile personnel. By doing this, we were able to donate otherwise destroyed devices to San Francisco Professional Technical School, a local high school experiencing resource shortages. The group coordinated with SC Chile district’s educational authority to organize a public technical school donation. In total, we donated 20 PCs, 10 laptops and 19 monitors. The school has a course of Accounting & Administration, where they will use these computers for their classes. The 100SEED team was even able to visit the school’s computer lab in December to ensure the computers were installed and working correctly.

Employees Leading, Making a Difference in the Community

Following the donation to Liceo Amador Neghme Rodriguez, the school organized a donation ceremony in December. Several team members from the SC Chile attended the ceremony in addition to President Taizo Hayakawa, who gave a brief speech in Spanish.

Colleagues throughout the SC Chile participated to make these programs possible. Most notably, the dedicated members of the 100SEED team are Risa Kikuchi, Mario Nuche, Fabiola Retamal, Maurice Becker, Maria Paz Sanchez, German Sourit, Christopher Quinones, Carlos Garay, along with the strong support of President Taizo Hayakawa. Kikuchi and Nuche were project leaders for these donations, and Quinones made the hard drive extraction possible for the PC donations.
