Chairman Ohmori Meets with Madagascar's President Rajaonarimampianina
On December 6, 2017, Chairman of Sumitomo Corporation, Kazuo Ohmori, met with H.E. Mr. Rakotoarimanana Hery Martial Rajaonarimampianina, President of the Republic of Madagascar, who was visiting Japan at the time.
In Madagascar, Sumitomo Corporation has been participating in the Ambatovy Project, one of the world's largest nickel projects, since 2005. Through the project, Sumitomo Corporation has contributed to the country's economic development by undertaking a variety of programs, ranging from port and road development to the construction of public facilities, the establishment and support of an education system and the protection of endangered species. At the same time, when conducting business, Sumitomo endeavors to build a relationship of mutual trust with local communities and achieve growth in harmony with the country's natural environment.
Mr. Ichiro Ogasawara, the ambassador of Japan to Madagascar, also attended the luncheon hosted by Sumitomo Corporation. President Rajaonarimampianina spoke about the future relationship between Madagascar and Sumitomo Corporation, and expressed his wish to further strengthen it through the Ambatovy Project, which he considers the pride of the nation.
