Woodside successfully utilized the real time drilling software (“DrillScene & DrillExpect”), supplied by Sumitomo Australia
Woodside Energy Julimar Pty Ltd, the operator of the Julimar Development Project, recently utilised real time drilling software for four of the Julimar Phase 2 project wells.
The Norwegian company Sekal developed real-time drilling software, which are promoted as “DrillScene” and “DrillExpect”.
Sekal developed the software from its original format 20 years ago to its current application across more than 350 wells. The software has field-proven evidence for the reduction of technical side-tracks from 32% to below 10% on the Norwegian Continental Shelf.
Sekal operates a 24/7 real-time support for clients globally and now forms part of the Sumitomo Corporation’s group companies in Japan.
The technology is based on the advanced hydraulic, mechanical and thermo-dynamical modelling giving a good picture of what is going on in real time in the well bore. The same technology is also utilised for fully-automating the drilling process, where Sekal currently has eight fully-fledged installations on offshore rigs.
