New Logistics Warehouse Goes into Operation in Thailand

Sumitomo Corporation (Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director, President and Chief Executive Officer: Masayuki Hyodo), will begin operation of its own 4,000 m2 warehouse (hereinafter, “the new warehouse”) through Sumisho Global Logistics (Thailand) Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Bangna, Thailand; Managing Director: Hironori Watanabe; hereinafter, “SGLT”), a Thai logistics subsidiary of Sumisho Global Logistics Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: Katsuya Okihiro), itself a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sumitomo Corporation (these three companies shall hereinafter be referred to as “the Sumitomo Corporation Group”).

The new warehouse was built on the premises of SGLT’s Navanakorn Branch, located in the Ayutthaya-Navanakorn region, about 45 minutes by car from Bangkok. This region is home to a concentration of food and consumer goods manufacturers and is well-situated as a hub for distribution to major consumer areas such as urban Bangkok and to the Port of Bangkok, so robust logistics demand is expected in future. This new warehouse at the Navanakorn Branch, the sixth constructed by the branch, will make effective use of the branch’s current personnel and know-how.

Thailand has become the world’s fifth-largest manufacturer of halal foods that strictly comply with Islamic law, and it is expected to handle still more halal food in future. One warehouse at the Navanakorn Branch recently obtained halal certification from the Central Islamic Council of Thailand (CICOT), Thailand’s halal certification body, and it has been meticulously meeting logistics needs pertaining to the storage of halal foods/products.

Since its founding in 1989, SGLT has been providing integrated logistics services to companies in the electronic/electric and food/consumer goods industries located primarily in the Ayutthaya-Navanakorn region as well as to companies in the automotive and construction machinery industries based in and around Chonburi Prefecture in eastern Thailand. The company presently has a network of five branches and seven other business locations in Amatanakorn, Prachinburi and elsewhere, and has firmly established its place as an integrated logistics service provider in Thailand.

SGLT previously had a total of about 90,000 m2 of total warehouse floor space to support its operations in Thailand, and the new warehouse brings this figure to approximately 94,000 m2.

The Sumitomo Corporation Group will continue contributing to the economic and industrial development of Thailand and its trading partners by meeting Thailand’s growing logistics needs.
