Sumitomo Corporation of Americas Makes Follow-on Investment in Sintavia

Sumitomo Corporation (Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President and Chief Executive Officer: Masayuki Hyodo), via Sumitomo Corporation of Americas (Head Office: New York, US; Representative: Masaki Nakajima; hereinafter, the two companies are collectively referred to as “Sumitomo Corporation Group”), has increased its investment in Sintavia, LLC (Head Office: Florida, USA; Chief Executive Officer: Brian Neff; hereinafter, “Sintavia”), a company with metal additive manufacturing technology.

Additive manufacturing has been applied to various industries as this technology can achieve complex geometry optimizing the design of a part, which leads to lighter weight, and reduce lead time of both development and production. It can also print a part directly from 3D printers with 3D CAD data, achieving on-demand manufacturing on site, and thus expected to contribute to improvement of supply chain management under COVID-19 circumstances. In addition, as there are only few wastes produced from materials during manufacturing process this technology is expected to rapidly grow in markets where sustainable society is being considered such as aerospace market.

Sintavia is a leading Tier One metal additive manufacturer, especially in the Aerospace industry, capable of design optimization, powder analysis, serial production, post process, heat treatment and quality assurance all in-house. The company is also committed to the highest quality standard in the industry and one of the few companies holding Nadcap approvals for laser additive manufacturing, electron beam additive manufacturing and in-house heat treatment. Due to its high quality, Sintavia is providing additively manufactured parts to the world’s largest Aerospace companies. Sintavia has recently started to receive production contracts expanding its business and positioning itself beyond startup phase.

Since initial investment in Sintavia in 2018, Sumitomo Corporation Group supported Sintavia produce parts for domestic customers as a representative in Japanese market, and create synergy with existing businesses and group companies. Hamilton Sundstrand Space Systems International, a joint venture with Collins Aerospace, has developed products for space application using parts additively manufactured by Sintavia. Sintavia plans to expand further its business for aerospace market and Sumitomo Corporation Group anticipate that larger synergy can be created through collaboration, which supported the decision to make follow-on investment in Sintavia. Sumitomo Corporation Group will utilize its broad customer base and its business portfolio to contribute to Sintavia’s further growth and enlarge our value proposition to domestic / international customers mainly in aerospace market.
