Fostering Communication and Team-building through Office DesignMid-Sized Office Building Brand PREX

Thanks to advances in information technology, alternative workplace arrangements such as telecommuting are on the rise. This trend is making effective communication among co-workers all the more important.

Kojimachi PREX is an office building designed to encourage workers to interact in a variety of ways.

Designed to help tenants “build a strong team,” Kojimachi PREX incorporates numerous features for encouraging casual communication. Each floor, for instance, is fitted with a kitchen. Also, the approach to the building has parking space for a rotating roster of food trucks and coffee vendors. The rooftop, meanwhile, offers power and Internet access so that it can also function as a work space.

Kojimachi PREX was developed in partnership with Nikken Activity Design Lab (operated by Nikken Sekkei) and food truck startup Mellow, which supplies the aforementioned food trucks. The building was completed in March 2018 and opened model offices in mid June.

Sumitomo Corporation plans to develop five PREX buildings in Chiyoda ward by 2020. Through its PREX projects, the Company looks forward to providing worker-friendly office spaces and fostering workplace communities.

“I hope our stylish, dynamic office spaces will foster innovation,” says PREX team member Takehiro Yamashita from the Building Business Department
