Summit Agro International Holds 40th Anniversary Ceremony
Summit Agro International, a member of the Sumitomo Corporation Group, engage in trading and wholesaling of Crop Protection Products (CPP), such as agrochemicals and other products relating to agriscience, life environment and animal science, celebrated its 40th anniversary this year. A commemorative ceremony was held on July 15 at the Sumitomo Corporation Takebashi Building, in which Summit Agro International's head office is located, in which more than 100 employees and person involved attended. A slide show looking back over the company's history, and congratulatory videos/messages from its group companies, Summit Agro China, Summit Agro Korea, Summit Agro Vietnam, Sumisho Agro India, Mahindra Summit Agriscience, and PT. Fumakilla Indonesia, were presented.
Hiromichi Maruyama, President and CEO of Summit Agro International, made a speech expressing his objectives for the years to come: "As a core company of the Sumitomo Corporation Group, we secure a strong financial base, pursuing for autonomous management with providing more flexible, agile and diverse services to our customers. Let's demonstrate our functions showing our best in our business area of CPP, life environment and animal science".
Masato Uno, General Manager of Sumitomo Corporation's Life Science Division, Takuya Tsujigaki, General Manager of the Planning & Coordination Department, Mineral Resources, Energy, Chemical & Electronics Business Unit, and Takashi Tanaka, General Manager of the AgriScience Department, each offered their congratulations as well as their expectations for the future.
Summit Agro International was established in 1982 under the name of Health-Agro as a company offering agriculture- and health-/sanitation-related consultation services, eventually merged with Sumisho Specialty Chemicals International in 1999, renaming to its current name at that time. In 2006, Sumitomo Corporation transferred its worldwide CPP trading business to Summit Agro International, which has extended its operations to include in-house development of admixtures as well as expand its trade/wholesale product lineup beyond CPP to household insecticides and other biosecurity agents. The company also handles pet care products from The Hartz Mountain, an American pet supplies manufacturer in the Sumitomo Corporation Group, and develops and manufactures some of its own products.

In the fiscal year ended March 2022, the Summit Agro Group companies in Asia that had been jointly established with Sumitomo Corporation were placed under the umbrella of Summit Agro International, which thereby became responsible for overseeing CPP wholesaling business in Asia just as Sumi Agro Europe is for Europe and Summit Agro South America is for Latin America. Accordingly, a capital increase was made through shareholder allocation on July 13 that increased the company's capital tenfold to about three billion yen.
Summit Agro International, in conjunction with Sumitomo Corporation, operates CPP wholesaling/retail business in 37 countries, and has a global trade network comprising more than 70 countries, is eager to fulfill its functions in a more multifaceted, sophisticated and rapid fashion in three businesses: the CPP business, which focuses on Japanese manufacturers, the life environment business, which handles household and epidemic – prevention insecticide, and the animal science business, which handles pet-care/veterinary medicine products.
