Sumitomo Corporation Follow-up Program for the Revitalization of East Japan

Sumitomo Corporation (Head Office: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director, President and Chief Executive Officer: Kuniharu Nakamura) will launch the Sumitomo Corporation Follow-up Program for the Revitalization of East Japan (hereinafter, “the Program”) starting in the second half of fiscal 2017. The program will provide ongoing support for the reconstruction of regions affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake.

Over the five years from fiscal 2012 to 2016, Sumitomo Corporation’s Sumitomo Corporation Youth Challenge Program for the Revitalization of East Japan supported young people involved in revitalizing eastern Japan in the hope of reconstructing the area and helping disaster victims rebuild their lives.
Even six years after the disaster, numerous problems still remain. The environment surrounding the disaster-hit regions and the people, as well as their support needs, are constantly changing. To provide ongoing reconstruction support that is closely tailored to local needs, Sumitomo Corporation has revised its program by drawing upon its past support experience.

The Program will assist organizations that seek to solve problems faced by disaster-affected regions, enabling them to take leadership roles in reconstruction. A grant totaling 150 million yen is scheduled to be paid out by the Program over three years.
Grant recipients will not be publicly solicited, but instead will be chosen through in-depth dialogue with candidates so that the support programs can be designed to closely meet local situations and needs. The Program will be conducted with the cooperation of the Civil Society Initiative Fund, a specified nonprofit corporation.

Sumitomo Corporation will remain committed to providing long-term reconstruction support in the hope of restoring and revitalizing the disaster-affected regions.
