New Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) Plant to Be Established in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province (China)

Sumitomo Corporation (Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director, President and Chief Executive Officer: Masayuki Hyodo), through its wholly-owned subsidiary Sumitronics Corporation (hereinafter, “Sumitronics”) that provides electronics manufacturing services (hereinafter, “EMS”), will be establishing a new plant for EMS business in the city of Wuxi (Jiangsu Province, China) (hereinafter, “the new plant”) jointly with Di-Nikko Engineering Co., Ltd. (hereinafter, “Di-Nikko Engineering”).

Wuxi is home to a concentration of China’s leading electronic information companies, and more than 1,000 Japanese firms have set up operations there. Domestic demand for automobiles and household appliances has risen in China, and EMS demand continues to expand. The in-car equipment sector in particular requires higher quality and more competitively priced board mounting for electronic equipment.

The new plant is to be jointly established by Sumitronics Shanghai Co., Ltd. (hereinafter, “Sumitronics Shanghai”), a subsidiary of Sumitronics, and Trois Electronics (Wuxi) Co., Ltd. (hereinafter, “Trois Wuxi”), a subsidiary of Di-Nikko Engineering, and is scheduled to begin operations in June 2020. Trois Wuxi’s strengths lie in board mounting and product assembly for in-car equipment, household appliances, etc. The new plant will be Sumitronics’ first in China and, in addition to Sumitronics Shanghai’s strong suits of household appliance and industrial equipment EMS, it will also focus on the in-car equipment sector. Introducing the Sumitronics Group’s proprietary CIMS process control system into the new plant will ensure thorough process control and traceability, create a system for providing high-quality and reliable products globally and address in-car equipment EMS needs.

Sumitomo Corporation entered the EMS business in the 1990s and has extended this business through Sumitronics to 10 locations in eight countries overseas. In addition to capturing in-car equipment/household appliance EMS demand in eastern China and expanding its earnings base by establishing and operating the new plant, it hopes to put in place an in-car equipment EMS framework and to achieve production innovation by, for instance, incorporating automation and labor-saving approaches into production for the household sector. Looking beyond the field of in-car equipment, Sumitomo Corporation is also striving to expand its business dealings in areas of increasing demand within the industrial, medical, and environmental infrastructure sectors.
