Sumitomo Corporation of Americas Donates $50,000 to Support California Wildfire Relief Efforts

Sumitomo Corporation of Americas (“SCOA”) is contributing $50,000 to the American Red Cross to support disaster relief efforts related to the devastating wildfires impacting California. This donation will help provide essential services such as emergency shelter, food, medical assistance, emotional support, and financial aid to those affected by these catastrophic fires. SCOA is also matching employee donations to disaster relief nonprofits dollar-for-dollar.

“As a company with operations, employees and partners within the state of California and the affected areas, we are committed to help in this significant time of need,” said Tom Wada, President and CEO, Sumitomo Corporation of Americas. “We believe that partnering with the American Red Cross will deliver expert support and critical resources to those who have been impacted. Our hearts go out to the individuals and families affected by this tragedy.”

American Red Cross is on the ground assisting families and communities affected by the fires, which have already destroyed more than 15,000 structures and displaced thousands of people. Red Cross teams are providing essential support such as overnight shelter, meals, and emotional care. Since the fires began, the Red Cross has coordinated over 9,400 overnight shelter stays and served nearly 90,000 meals and snacks with the help of partners.*

As communities begin to recover, the Red Cross continues to work tirelessly to provide resources for housing, transportation, health care, childcare, and other urgent needs. Caseworkers are also helping affected individuals navigate recovery planning and connect with local resources.

The Sumitomo Corporation Group remains committed to achieving sustainable corporate growth while addressing key social issues, including support for disaster relief efforts. SCOA’s donation reflects its commitment to fostering a culture of corporate citizenship and social responsibility.
