President Nakamura Meets Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak and Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung

President and CEO of Sumitomo Corporation, Kuniharu Nakamura, met with Prime Minister Najib Razak of Malaysia and Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung of Vietnam, both of whom were visiting Japan to attend the ASEAN-Japan Commemorative Summit Meeting which was held on December 14.

In Malaysia, Sumitomo Corporation has been engaged in the aluminum refining business and construction of large-scale power plants. To date, the Company has received orders for five power plants, with a total generation capacity of more than 20% of the Malay Peninsula's entire power capacity. In addition, in anticipation of further expansion in the country's e-commerce market, Sumitomo Corporation launched an e-commerce service that offers a comprehensive selection of household products. President Nakamura expressed his intention to continue engaging mainly in a wide range of infrastructure-related projects in Malaysia, including high-speed railway projects, and exchanged opinions with Prime Minister Najib Razak.

In Vietnam, Sumitomo Corporation has received orders for several infrastructure projects including the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Line 1. At the Thang Long Industrial Park, the Company provides diverse support to Japanese companies expanding overseas. In addition to business opportunities, Vietnam has offered Sumitomo Corporation diverse opportunities for social contribution, as exemplified by the scholarship program launched by the Company in 1996, which has extended support to a total of more than 2,000 university students. President Nakamura conveyed his intention to continue contributing widely to the country through the promotion of electric power plant and railway projects. Prime Minister Dung reciprocated by expressing a warm welcome for the Company's activities in Vietnam.
