2014 Initiation Ceremony Held
On April 1, 2014, an initiation ceremony was held at the Sumitomo Corporation Head Office Building for 148 new employees who listened to the speeches with eager looks on their faces.
Company president Kuniharu Nakamura noted, "Sumitomo has remained in business for 400 years because it continues to adhere to the credo of 'benefit for self and others, private and public interests are one and the same,' that is, it continues to be a company useful to society, a company able to contribute to society and a company respected by society," and he described the personnel sought by the Sumitomo Corporation Group as "persons with strong will, integrity and a sense of ethics capable of acknowledging a diversity of values and of acting on their own initiative." He stressed the importance of proactive learning to the new employees: "I hope you will learn well from your future training and work and build strong and broad foundations, as the strength and size of these foundations will make all the difference in your future."

After the speeches, the president handed a letter of appointment and a hearty word of encouragement to each and every new employee, who accepted these with nervous anticipation.
