Meeting with Vietnam's President Sang
Sumitomo Corporation's President Kuniharu Nakamura met with Vietnam's President Truong Tan Sang during the latter's visit to Japan as a state guest on March.
During this meeting, President Nakamura explained the projects in which Sumitomo Corporation has been engaged heretofore, including the Thang Long Industrial Park and the Phu My 2 Thermal Power Plant Phase II Project. He also reaffirmed Sumitomo Corporation's commitment to making further contributions to Vietnam's development through infrastructure projects in support of Vietnam's industrialization strategy as well as through other business ventures and social action programs.

President Sang recalled that Sumitomo Corporation had resumed doing business in Vietnam in the early 1990s, when he himself was serving as mayor of Ho Chi Minh City, and he expressed high regard for the contributions that Sumitomo Corporation's various businesses have since made to Vietnam's economic development.
He also conveyed his gratitude for Sumitomo Corporation's scholarship program for university students in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh that has assisted as many as 2,000 students since its launch in 1996.
