"The Korien Residence" Wins 2014 Good Design Award

"The Korien Residence," a condominium in which Sumitomo Corporation teamed up with Keihan Real Estate Co., Ltd., and ORIX Real Estate Corporation for the development and sales, was recently named the winner of the 2014 Good Design Award. "The Senri Residence," another series of apartment buildings in which Sumitomo Corporation has been involved, won the same award in 2011.

This apartment located adjacent to Korien Station in Neyagawa City, Osaka Prefecture, is an apartment tower complex which represents the culmination of a redevelopment project first conceptualized in 1987. The aim was to ensure barrier-free access and creative incorporation of light and greenery, thereby creating a long-term residence in which people would be able to enjoy a healthy lifestyle.

Although the design is simple, its details were meticulously crafted, and the building's open dwelling space and the techniques employed to dispel dimness in the central void help to earn the tower complex high marks for its design.

The Good Design Award is a comprehensive design evaluation and commendation system sponsored by the Japan Institute of Design Promotion. Awards are presented for outstanding designs that people have created not only for tangibles such as household appliances and structures, but also for intangibles such as services and business models.

Sumitomo Corporation remains committed in its housing & urban development business to provide high-quality living environments by developing each and every property individually and with care.
