Sumitomo Corporation of Americas Donates $50,000 to Support Venezuela Earthquake Relief Efforts

New York, NY – July 13, 2026 – Sumitomo Corporation of Americas (“SCOA”) has contributed $50,000 to the American Red Cross to support relief efforts following the devastating earthquakes that struck Venezuela last month. The American Red Cross is a trusted, long-standing disaster-relief partner of SCOA. These funds will go directly toward emergency assistance, including shelter, clean water, medical care, and other critical services for those impacted by this catastrophic disaster.

“As recovery efforts continue, we are compelled to help the people of Venezuela during this profoundly difficult time,” said Kotaro Tameda, President and CEO, Sumitomo Corporation of Americas. “By contributing directly to the American Red Cross, we are helping to deliver urgent relief to families and communities who have lost so much.”

On June 24, 2026, two powerful earthquakes measuring 7.2 and 7.5 in magnitude and striking just seconds apart became the strongest to impact Venezuela in more than a century. To date, more than 4,490 people have lost their lives, 16,740 have been injured, and thousands remain missing or displaced. Homes, schools, hospitals, and critical infrastructure have been severely damaged or destroyed, leaving many families without access to safe shelter, clean water, and essential medical services. Recovery efforts remain ongoing, further straining communities already facing significant economic challenges.

SCOA’s donation was accompanied by participation from its own community. Through the company’s employee matching program, SCOA employees across the region have mobilized to contribute individual donations, reflecting a shared commitment among both leadership and employees to respond to the crisis in Venezuela.

The Sumitomo Corporation Group remains committed to achieving sustainable corporate growth while addressing key social issues, including support for disaster relief efforts. SCOA’s donation reflects its commitment to fostering a culture of corporate citizenship and social responsibility, with a focus on helping vulnerable communities in times of need.
