SCIN FY2020 CSR Activities

Sumitomo’s business activities must benefit not only Sumitomo’s own business but also society and the nation. We aim to be a global organization that constantly stays a step ahead in dealing with change, creates new value, and contributes broadly to society.  Due to COVID situation, we mostly arranged the virtual ceremonies.

Scholarship Programme

Besides physical donations of items, Sumitomo Corporation India Pvt. Ltd. ("SCIN") awarded scholarships to the students in three colleges located in New Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai.

SCIN – New Delhi Office (St. Stephens College)

Deserving students were honoured with Sumitomo Scholarship every year and they felt privileged to receive it. This year, colleges were closed due to current situation of COVID-19 in India. Therefore, we could not visit the college to conduct the scholarship distribution. Instead, we organized a virtual Sumitomo Scholarship Ceremony on 13 April 2021.

SCIN commences scholarship programme in New Delhi since year 1997.

SCIN - Mumbai Office (JAI HIND COLLEGE)

Every Year  students with good academic results from Jai Hind College received Sumitomo Scholarship annually. This year, the Scholarship Distribution Ceremony was held online on 30 March 2021, and attended by all students from the safety of their homes.

SCIN Chennai Office (Loyola College)

Every Year  students with good academic results from Loyola College receive Sumitomo Scholarship annually. From SCIN Chennai members attended the scholarship ceremony held on 22 March 2021.

Donations to NGOs

SCIN New Delhi Office : For FY2020 we have invested in Samadhan NGO & Janta Rehabilitation Centre

Samadhan NGO

SAMADHAN, an NGO with dual focus on persons with intellectual disability also impacted by poverty in New Delhi, Service models have been developed to suit the characteristics of low socio economic target communities and today provide community outreach for raising awareness on intellectual disability, advocacy in local mainstream schools, therapy, special education and early intervention. SCIN supported for Furniture, IT equipment and other learning material as per their request.

Janta Rehabilitation Centre - Visually impaired school

Janta Rehabilitation Centre was established in 1996. The centre has arrangement for 40 pupils for free boarding and training in Gurgaon. They provide clothing, medical aid and items free of cost. The aim of JRTC is to empower them to get employment/self-employment and lead productive independent lives whether or not they have the resources to get trained. SCIN supported for IT equipment and other study material for the special students as per their request.

SCIN Mumbai Office

Bombay Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA)

This NGO was established in 1875, provides education and training to needy children to make them self-sufficient and respectable citizens of India. The Bombay YMCA Street Children Programme provides its services to the “rootless and roofless” children in Mumbai, through its night shelter, daytime activities and vocational training, so that the older children can support themselves and lead an independent and dignified life. It also provides support to children from families who are poor and unable to support them. SCIN supported for IT equipment as per their request.

SCIN Chennai Office

Sri Arunodayam Charitable Trust

Sri Arunodayam is a home for abandoned intellectually challenged children. Founded in 2003, it is a registered charitable trust that has received many recognitions including the Government. The NGO has been providing a safe and caring environment for the children. It is also focusing on rehabilitation through special education and therapies to improve the quality of life of these children. At present, the home has 115 children from various age groups. SCIN supported for IT equipment and other learning material as per their request.
