SCIN FY2024 CSR Activities

Sumitomo is guided by a business philosophy that goes beyond profit-making. The company's activities are designed to serve not only its own interests but also the broader needs of society and the nation. We strive to be a forward-looking global organization—one that stays ahead of change, creates innovative value, and contributes meaningfully to the greater good.     
In line with government regulations, SCIN allocates 2% of the average net profit from the past three financial years to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives. For FY 2024, we supported the following NGOs and educational institutions.     

All major offices at Sumitomo Corporation India Pvt. Ltd. (SCIN) make their own contributions towards the CSR activities every year.

For FY 2024, we have invested in below NGOs and Colleges.

 

 

Scholarship Programme

Scholarship donations have the power to revolutionize educational opportunities. By providing financial support to deserving students, these contributions break down barriers to learning and open doors to success.

Focusing on this aim, SCIN awarded scholarships to the students in 3 colleges located in Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai, respectively.

SCIN – New Delhi Office (St. Stephens College)

Each year, deserving students are honored with the prestigious Sumitomo Scholarship, and it is a moment of pride for the recipients. This year, as in previous years, we visited the college to attend the scholarship award ceremony. Mr. Takahiro Jitosho, Chairman and Managing Director of SCIN, along with other SCIN members, was present at the event.

 

 

SCIN - Mumbai Office (Jai Hind College)

Every year deserving students are honoured with the prestigious Sumitomo Scholarship and they feel privileged to receive this recognition. The Scholarship Distribution Ceremony was held at the college, where the scholars were warmly applauded by their peers, parents, friends, and faculty members.

SCIN - Chennai Office (Loyola College)

Like past years deserving students are honored with Sumitomo Scholarship and they feel privileged to receive it. This year Scholarship Distribution Program was conducted offline in college. Scholarship Award Ceremony was attended by Mr. Kazumasa Imai and other members.

Donations to NGOs

For FY2024, we have invested in Tamana & The Earth Saviours Foundation under CSR donation.

 

Tamana NGO

Background:

Tamana is a non-profit organization founded in 1984 by Dr. Shayama Chona (Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan awardee) to provide rehabilitative services for individuals with developmental disabilities, brain damage, and those on the autism spectrum. It was inspired by Dr. Chona's daughter, Tamana, who was born with Cerebral Palsy. It has three centers in Vasant Vihar, New Delhi: the Tamana Special Education Centre (inaugurated by Princess Diana in 1992), the Skill Development Centre for young adults (inaugurated by Mrs. Sheila Dikshit), and the Autism Centre-School of Hope (inaugurated by Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam). Tamana in its three centres has close to 300 differently abled students. Majority of students belong to the economically weaker sections of the society. Aim is to provide them the best professional services to enable them to become inclusive and integrated members of society to the best of their ability.

Our Contribution:

  • SCIN donated 8 Smart Boards with stands which will help autistic children in Interactive Learning and Skill Development.

The Earth Saviours Foundation

Background:

The Earth Saviours Foundation has been operating since 2008, providing shelter for the elderly and rescuing those in need. Founded by the late Karmayogi Shri Ravi Kalra ji, the organization began with him personally rescuing abandoned individuals from the streets. He built a small hut on an empty plot of land where he gave shelter to those he rescued. Today, the foundation provides a permanent home for around 1,200 underprivileged individuals across its shelter homes in Bandhwari Village and Mandawar Village, District Gurugram, Haryana. This NGO has served over 15000 individuals successfully by rehabilitating them and reuniting many with their families.                            

Our Contribution:

  • We have donated 20 Electrical Medical beds and 22 walkers for the bed-ridden patients in the NGO.

For FY2024, we have invested in Bombay Young Men’s Christian Association under CSR donation.

 

Bombay Young Men’s Christian Association

Background:

Bombay Young Men’s Christian Association is established in 1875 for providing shelter, food, education, medical assistance and vocational training to needy children to make them self-sufficient and respectable citizens of India.

NGO is working for promoting Education and providing Healthcare to the needy homeless children.

The Bombay YMCA Street Children Programme provides its services to the ‘rootless and roofless’ children in Mumbai, through its Night Shelter, Day time activities and Vocational training, so that the older children can support themselves and live independent and respectful life. It also provides support to children from families that are poor and unable to support them.

Our Contribution:

For FY2024, we have donated below items to Bombay YMCA – Andheri (West) branch–

  1. Kitchen Chimney with Exhaust System.                                                                                                                                   
  2. Deep Freezer.                                                                                                                                                    
  3. Refrigerator.                                                                                                                                                         
  4. Storage Lockers for children.

For FY2024, we have invested in Sri Arunodayam Charitable Trust and Chennai Pain and Palliative Care under CSR donation.

 

SRI ARUNODAYAM CHARITABLE TRUST – NGO

Background:

Sri Arunodayam Charitable Trust was established in 2002, and is a home for abandoned children with intellectual disabilities. Sri Arunodayam is a residential cum rehabilitation home offering comprehensive services and therapies for the holistic development of children with development delay and intellectual disability. They provide children with a safe permanent shelter, nutritious food, medical care and rehabilitation through education & therapies to help them to lead purposeful lives and to be integrated back into society at their own pace.

Our Contribution:

   This year we have donated 25 specially designed cots and mattresses for children with intellectual disabilities.

CHENNAI PAIN AND PALLIATIVE CARE

Background:

Chennai Pain and Palliative Care was established in 2014 to provide Palliative care support to those who are terminally ill and with life limiting diseases.They are reaching out to as many as more than 500 patients who face life threatening disease or life limiting diseases and their families through prevention and relief of suffering by means of early identification, impeccable assessment and treatment of pain and other problems mainly focusing on improving the quality of life of the patients– Physical, Psychosocial, Spiritual and Financial. Their Goal is to reduce the suffering and improve Quality of Life of patients at the end of their life and ensure a well dignified farewell.

Our Contribution:

   This year we have donated a Generator, 3 Air Conditioner units, Washing Machine and Dish Washer for the inhouse patients.
