SCMX Mexico City Office: A Thriving Hub of Collaboration and Innovation

SCMX

The Sumitomo Corporation Mexico City Office recently celebrated its 70th anniversary

For over 70 years, the SCMX Mexico City Office has been a pillar of excellence, embodying strong values, a deep-rooted culture, and an unwavering commitment to its people. Established as a liaison office in 1954 and formally founded in 1971, it has grown into a dynamic workplace that continues to evolve with the times. Today, with 83 employees—80 based in Mexico City and three in the Bajío Office—the team is more united than ever in shaping the future of business in the region.

A Modern Workspace for a New Era

In October 2023, the Mexico City Office underwent a full-scale renovation, ushering in a new era of flexibility and collaboration. The redesigned space follows a ”free address” working scheme, allowing employees to work dynamically across a variety of settings. From modern meeting rooms to standing desks, wellness areas, and even a "Zen" room offering breathtaking views of the Iztaccihuatl and Popocatepetl volcanoes, the office is designed to foster both productivity and well-being.

Strategically located on Paseo de la Reforma Avenue, right in front of the iconic Angel de la Independencia, the office offers a stunning panoramic view of the city. Employees have access to cutting-edge technology and a range of collaborative spaces that encourage innovation and teamwork. Whether working from a dedicated station, a coffee lounge, or a private cabinet, the environment is built to support diverse work styles.

Business and Community Growth

The Mexico City Office works to supply its best processes for administrative functions, including Human Resources & General Affairs, Treasury & Accounting, and Logistics. The business departments span industries such as Metal, Basic Chemicals & Electronics, Life Science & Agribusiness, Mineral Resources, Energy & Infrastructure, Automotive, and Business Development. Each team plays a critical role in driving growth and maintaining SCMX’s strong presence in the Americas.

Beyond business, the office is deeply connected to the cultural and social fabric of Mexico City. With the historic downtown just a short distance away, employees and visitors can explore renowned landmarks such as the Palacio de Bellas Artes, Palacio Nacional, and the Templo Mayor archaeological site. The Bosque de Chapultepec, one of the largest urban parks in the world, offers a scenic retreat for those looking to enjoy nature, museums, and local cuisine.

A Workplace That Feels Like Home

The commitment to creating an exceptional work environment is evident in every aspect of the Mexico City Office. Employees not only benefit from a world-class workspace but also from a company culture that prioritizes diversity, equity, and inclusion. This dedication to fostering a supportive and forward-thinking environment is best summed up by Mr. Shiraishi:

"With 70 years of trajectory, the Mexico Office stands as a testament to unwavering values, a deep-rooted culture, and genuine care for every individual who contributes to our success. As we embrace the future, transforming our working style to foster collaboration, innovation as well as diversity, equity, and inclusion; we are committed to creating a great place to work where every voice is heard, and every opportunity is open to all. In SCMX, we thrive as one, building not just a company, but a community that empowers and inspires."
